Q&A

Q: What is an International Student Mentor?
A: An International Student Mentor is a student leader (undergraduate or graduate, international or US student) who volunteers to assist new incoming international students in adjusting academically, culturally, and socially to the United States and to Texas A&M University.
The Mentor will assist in educating new international students about campus and community life as well as Aggie Traditions, while providing a general connection to the University.
International Student Mentors will also be available to answer many of the questions new students may have upon arrival and during their first semester in the United States, and assist with difficulties in communication, social relationships, academics, expectations, and general cultural changes.

Q: When does ISMA accept new mentors?
A: ISMA initiates the application process at the end of each semester to prepare and train new mentors for the New International Student Orientations at the beginning of each following semester.
Mentors looking to be involved for the Fall semesters will apply in April.
Mentors looking to be involved for the Spring semesters will apply in November.
Applications can be found on our website during these months.

Q: Can I involve with ISMA before the new mentor selection process?
A: ALL ISMA events are open to the public. These provide a great way to befriend international students.
